There is a large playground to the rear of the school which also has an adventure playground with a wooden boat outdoor classroom/play area, plus a large allotment area used for growing vegetables.

The caretaker lives on site, in a house adjacent to the school. Westhaven School enjoys a very positive relationship with the EOTAS Service (South) Centre, which is based in adjoining buildings on the same site. Also on site are the headquarters of the Weston Education Partnership, which draws together a number of exciting initiatives, including the Behaviour Improvement Programme and the Excellence Cluster.

What are we setting out to achieve for our pupils?

At Westhaven School our purpose is to ensure that we deliver the outcomes of Every Child Matters so pupils may increase in self-esteem, develop to their full potential and emerge to become valued members of their community. Our pupils are those for whom the mainstream school may be inappropriate for all or part of their education. We seek to offer therefore, a broad and rigorous curriculum based on the National Curriculum, which is modified to meet pupil needs and supported by Individual Education Plans. All pupils are entered for a range of external examinations including Entry Levels, GCSEs, ASDAN and NVQs.

Pastoral care and support

We provide high levels of pupil support in small groups and offer flexible placements in partnership with mainstream schools. All pupils are members of a House and meet together once a week – Barrington (Green), Montacute (Red) and Tyntesfield (Yellow).  Within these houses they are in smaller mixed age groups called House Personal Adviser groups, which also meet once a week to focus on the development of life, social and interpersonal skills.  We aim to ensure that all pupils additionally enjoy a wide variety of interesting and challenging experiences, including residential visits. We provide a high quality of education, which will enable our pupils to achieve success in learning beyond their original expectations and is valued by the pupil, their parents and the local community.
