    Outstanding results for Westhaven

Fantastic results for Westhaven pupils!

We have just received the results for our last group of year 11 pupils from the Department of Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and once again they are outstanding! We have compared the results for our pupils with those for pupils in other Foundation Special Schools nationally as follows:

GCSE points score

For each GCSE/Entry level subject every grade has a point score attached to it e.g. a Grade 1 Entry Level is worth 10 points and a D grade GCSE is worth 34 points. Up to eight best qualifications are counted for each pupil and then the average for each pupil in the year group is calculated:

The average GCSE points score is 71.0 for Foundation Special Schools  and for Westhaven was 240.2 so that is over three times the score for similar schools.

The percentage of pupils gaining 5+ GCSE passes at grades A* - G in Foundation special schools was 11.7% and at Westhaven was 90. The percentage of pupils gaining 5+ GCSE passes at grades A* - G including English and Maths in Foundation special schools was 7.3% and at  Westhaven was 40%.

Contextual Value Added (CVA).

This is the measurement of progress that each pupil makes from KS2 – KS4 – that is the value which the school adds to the pupil over and above expected performance. The score is based around 1000 and if pupils GCSE results are better than those achieved by other pupils with the same KS2 results, then the CVA will be over 1000. A score of 1006 means that, on average, each of the school’s pupils achieved  the equivalent of one GCSE grade higher in one subject in comparison to similar pupils. A score of 1048 means that, on average,  each pupil achieved one GCSE grade higher in each of their eight best subjects than the average attained by similar pupils.

Westhaven’s Contextual Value Added (CVA) score for 2009 was 1095.5 meaning that our pupils, on average, gained two grades higher than the average expected in each of their eight best subjects – an outstanding result placing Westhaven in the top 6% of all special schools nationally and in the top 5% of all schools nationally.

Many congratulations to our fantastic staff and our outstanding 2009 Year 11 pupils!
