Friends of Westhaven

Minutes of P.T.A. Committee Meeting - Thursday 7th June 2007

Present: F Baker, P Doe, C Wistow, J Moss, H Thorne, H Rich, S Jeffrey

Apologies: B Richardson, W Vincent, Mrs Weaver, Mrs Winstone, Mrs Gough

Minutes of the Last Meeting: Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved by H Thorne, seconded by S Jeffrey

Matters Arising:

Amendment to last minutes: The Sidcot tickets are now going to the raffle and not the silent auction.

Water – Jenny Moss had been in contact with the local authority but was informed that this would be the responsibility of the school. There was to be one unit in the new building and one outside the staff room. Each unit would cost £240 per annum.

Quiz – Jenny had no information on this so far.

Eggs – The hunt had gone well and a thank you letter had been sent to Star Radio.

Nessy – This is an on going experiment with SuccessMaker but so far things were progressing well.

School Bid – Nothing to report from Jenny at the moment.

Phil Doe to do a Bikeathon. The money will be going to charity.

Treasurer’s Report:

Bernie Richardson was unable to attend the meeting. His report was read by Carole Wistow. There was £24257 in the account; £20000 has been transferred to a higher interest banking account.

Summer Fayre:

Sheena Jeffrey reported that there were many prizes for the raffle. The tickets were going out to the parents via the children and also to the staff.

The Fire Brigade will be attending but will require a member of staff with the children to ensure health and safety and also they will require a quick exit in case of emergency. No news yet from the Police or RNLI. Secret World is unable to attend.

Sheena will require 4 tables for the raffle.

Hay bales – Perhaps George Tuttiett will be able to help.

Hilary has contacted the Star web site to advertise the fayre.

Rosemary Austin will bring her jams.

Sheena has bought Target Ball Game and Hoopla.

Football – perhaps Martin Phillips.

Wendy Vincent to organise food.

Two stalls needed for the plants, one for PTA and one for Tracy Towler.

Any other business:

It was suggested that perhaps a representative from the PTA could attend the Induction Evening on 26th June at 6 p.m. This might encourage more parents to come to PTA meetings. Phil Doe said he would attend.

A letter has been received from Chantelle Smith on behalf of year 11 asking for a donation towards the year 11 leaver’s barbeque. It was agreed to give £200.

A letter has been received from B Davies asking for a donation for the house trip. This had been agreed last year but the hot weather had meant that the trip had to be cancelled. The parents had been asked to contribute towards the cost of the trip and it was agreed that the committee would pay the rest of the money for the trip to Crealy. Phil Doe suggested that the PTA also buy the children ice creams. This was agreed.

Rummage sale - Carole Wistow suggested a Rummage sale in September. Bric a brac, clothes, toys etc.  This was agreed.

Dates for the calendar:

27th September – Rummage Sale

11th October – AGM at 6 p.m. All parents and friends of Westhaven welcome to attend the   meeting, PTA meeting to follow AGM.

5th December - Christmas Fayre

Further details will be on the school website nearer the time.

Next Meeting: 11th October

Meeting Closed at: 6.30 p.m.
