3 classrooms (including a Science room), consultation room and officeThe new building is now completed and in use! First and foremost we must congratulate Mrs Moss for having the vision and determination to make it happen. The outcome, a superb new learning environment, now makes all of the inconvenience of the last eight months seem worthwhile. We would all like to say a special thank you to Richard (site manager) and Mike (deputy site manager) for the excellent way they have managed the whole project. They always made sure that the building went ahead with as little disruption to the normal running of the school as possible. A big thank you also to everyone else, whether Bluestone or sub-contractors, who has worked so hard on site to create this excellent building. In school I doubt there is anyone who has not been effected in some way by the building work. All of the children showed interest in the project throughout its various stages, were sensible and responsible listening to and following the health and safety instructions and guidelines, and have patiently managed with only half a playground for four terms! It should not be under-estimated either the considerable workload involved for those staff involved with moving classrooms, as well as continuing to carry out their normal duties. Their reward now of course is a shiny new classroom - modern, spacious and air-conditioned! Not that their work is quite finished yet, as it will probably take some time to settle in to working in a new environment and finding the right place for everything. It must not go unnoticed either the considerable additional workload this has been for Barry Smith, providing the crucial day to day liaison between Westhaven and Bluestone, and often working unseen when everyone else was at home during evenings, weekends and holidays. Thanks to Barry for also taking some superb shots, and making sure we didn't miss seeing any of the vital stages of construction. The pictures below are in reverse chronological order - so if you want to relive the whole experience start at the bottom! |
