The day started bright and sunny as we left Westhaven at 7.15 for the first part of our journey to France.

This year we had  a coach which meant that we did not have to carry our bags on and off the ferry and train. It also gave us the chance to visit other parts of France.  As a bonus, right from the outset the driver seemed friendly and helpful.

We reached Dover in good time to catch the 1.45 ferry to Calais.  The view from the ferry as we left the white cliffs was magnificent and the children were all excited to be on their way.

The crossing was very calm and we arrived in Calais at 4 p.m. After a leisurely drive we arrived at the hostel in Boulogne sur Mer.

The children were able to unpack and make their beds before going down to our evening meal. As usual the hostel staff made us very welcome and provided an enjoyable meal.

The evening was warm as we took the children for a walk beside the River Liane. We also were able to look at some of the shops and give the children some idea of the French way of life.
