News in brief:Have you seen this person?
If so please let us know, because the first weekend it was on show at the front of the school it mysteriously disappeared. Key Stage 2, who made this very scary scarecrow as their entry for a local competition, were very disappointed when they returned on the Monday morning to find it missing.
New staff This term we welcomed to our school two new members of staff. Mrs Cantello is a Year 7 tutor as well as teaching Art and Drama. Mr Vincent is a Year 8 tutor as well as teaching Humanities, PE and Environmental Science.
Fond farewell We were sad to have to say a fond farewell to Mrs Johnson who left Westhaven at the end of last term, to retire from a long career in teaching. She has been teaching Art here for eight years during which time she has done much to raise the standard and profile of the subject and to enable students to achieve their best in their GCSE results. Mrs Johnson always made sure that she shared the pupils' achievements with the colourful and imaginative displays of artwork which were always around the school to brighten everyone's days. She will be greatly missed and we all wish her well in her retirement.
Pupils win £5000 'Network 13' funding

This was during one of the plant sales held there this term open to the general public. Staff and pupils were interviewed while parents and shoppers looked round to find their plant bargains.
Goblin Combe
On 2nd and 3rd July Key Stage 2 stayed at Combe
Lodge. For many it was their first night away from their parents.
They all had lots of fun doing outdoor activities.

Sports kitemarks for Westhaven
The school received notification in December 2008 that we have achieved the prestigious Sportsmark and Activemark kitemarks for the provision of high quality sport and PE across the whole school. We were the only school in North Somerset this year to get both awards. We could not have done this without the support of the parents who have been willing to support the provision of the new after school sports clubs by picking up their children from school after training sessions. Thanks and well done to all. The world of work
Another successful visit to France

Morning traffic arrangementsSince the beginning of this term we have been piloting a new system for vehicles. Between 8.20am and 8.45am no vehicles, apart from staff and essential car users, are allowed on to the school site. All pupils are to be dropped off outside the school gates where a member of staff will be to ensure their safe passage into school. This is part of our Travel Plan to ensure the safety of pupils and to ease congestion at the beginning of the school day. We greatly appreciate your cooperation with this.
