New PA and lighting system at Westhaven

At last we have a new PA and lighting system at Westhaven.  Matt from Weston Music came into school to give staff and pupils instructions on how to use the new system. The sound system is also flexible enough to be unplugged and used outdoors for events like sports day. We can even split it in two and have a separate outdoor and indoor system for events like our Summer Fair!

Programming at Westhaven

Students are enjoying learning how to programme using ipad apps and raspberry pi.

Visit from a chef!

As part of Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution day on Friday 15th, which is a global campaign to put compulsory practical food education on the school curriculum, Miss Constable, Teacher of Food Technology, invited Chef Simon Gray to Westhaven School to teach the students some brand new cooking skills.

The Year 8s and Year 10s got a master class lesson in how to joint and portion a whole chicken and then really put their skills to the test by making their own dish of spinach and ricotta stuffed chicken breast, accompanied by homemade ratatouille. They presented their dish to restaurant standard before getting to eat their creations for lunch!  The pupils demonstrated some excellent skills and really impressed Chef Simon!

Smoothie Bike comes to Westhaven

As part of food studies, pupils from phases 1, 2 and 3 took part in a Smoothie Bike Workshop. Pupils learned about where fruit and vegetables come from and sampled unusual fruit, before using pedal power to make their own drinks.  The pupils all enjoyed trying the smoothies they made!

Bristol City v Coventry Saturday 18th April
